Learn vegetarian Indian cooking while meeting and getting to know like-minded people and maybe finding an Indian gift for yourself or someone else, well before the holiday season rush.

Pria is a native of India and have been enjoying making Indian food since she was a teen. She will teach up to 10 people how to make a few items in my kitchen. We will then enjoy a nice meal over some lively conversation! Afterwards, you are welcome to peruse her inventory for heron-line boutique: www.komalstyle.com, where she sells accessories from India such as scarves and a few other items.

A supply fee of $15 will go towards spices (baby-food sized jars) provided to you to make the dishes at home, recipe hand-outs and the ingredients for the meal.

The event will be held at Pria's house in Thornton. We will email everyone who RSVPs for the event the contact info three days before the event.

As always, please sign up only if you can definitely attend..

Cost: $15.00

Almost procrastinated too late to host a summer potluck, but procrastinate no more!

So this Sunday, come to the potluck. It will go from 1pm until 4pm-ish or so. I have a pretty big yard, and I'll have a couple of shade structures up, so we probably won't die from exposure :) Also, if you want to bring board games, horseshoes, bocci, etc., feel free to do so.

Even though we're the vegetarian group, if you can bring something that's vegan I'm sure our vegan members will be happy with you :)

So here are some guidelines, adapted from Ann Swissdorf's potluck: For the potluck, bring a plant-based dish (no meat, fish fowl, gelatin, dairy, eggs, honey or other animal derived products) to serve at least 8 people. A plant-based dish can be as simple as, cut up fruits or veggies or a bottle of natural apple juice to share. Those comfortable with plant-based, please feel free to show off, dazzle us with your talent and bring extra if you like.

Also bring a serving utensil, your own place setting, your own drink and a recipe card (with some extras to share) listing the ingredients in your dish (Please note on your recipe card if your dish contains hydrogenated oils for the health conscience folks in the group and also if it contains common allergens such as nuts).

I'm also posted a note on our calendar about a Growing Your Own Sprouts and Micro Greens Class on Saturday. For details, see the vegan group listing at http://www.meetup.com/ColoradoVeggies/calendar/11007389/

We haven't been to Watercourse in some time, and I know this all-vegetarian restaurant is the favorite of many. Be prepared to be paralyzed by indecision as you choose from their huge vegetarian menu (with numerous vegan options). See http://www.watercoursefoods.com/ for details.

Thanks everyone for RSVP-ing responsibly -- we have to give Watercourse an accurate reservation the night before, so please do lock in your reservation accurately by then.

Ira is organizing a dinner out at Arada, an awesome Ethiopian restaurant on Santa Fe Drive. Get ready to eat some tasty Ethiopian dishes served by friendly staff and owners from Ethiopia. The menu is posted at http://aradarestaurant.com/

Know that Ethiopian food is eaten using your hands (squeezing their sponge bread around entree items), so you get to channel your inner and outer child.

As always, only RSVP yes if you are certain that you can make it to Arada. Ira will be setting up a reservation with them, so we'd like to give them an accurate count. Also, please change your yes RSVP if you can no longer make it.

More events to come this summer!!!

Personal tour of the solar system and see the NET electric meter going backwards when the free energy is being generated. I will prepare one of my great dishes plus have numerous types of teas and other refreshments. It will be a great day of fun, learning, and great friends gathering. I hope we have a great turn out. Please bring your own place setting along with a vegetarian dish to share with 8 other people.

Taki's is one of Denver's best Japanese restaurants, and most affordable. They have vegetarian and vegan options, including the world's best ever ginger [url=http://www.westword.com/bestof/2002/award/best-place-to-recover-from-smoking-39074/ soup. Other favorites include noodle bowls, tempura, sesame tofu, and edame.

Ira talked to the chef and he showed Ira a new salad with vegetarian California rolls he would like to have us try along with a new vegetarian dressing.

So come join us for a long overdue vegetarian dinner out.

It has been a little while since we went to Govinda's, and a while since we had a restaurant event. So do come and join us at Govinda's.

Govindas has long been extremely gracious and open to our meetup group. The oldest vegetarian restaurant in Denver provides a tasty buffet of vegetarian food, with an Indian influence but eclectic creations from around the world. Food is provided as a buffet, and total cost is $8. Can't be beat!

See http://www.krishnadenver.com/buffet.html for details

As always, only RSVP if you can definitely make the meeting. I will cut the RSVP limit at 15 since Govindas is relatively small, so please be kind with your RSVP :)

Ira is graciously willing to be a host for our holiday potluck. Nasiya, who suggested this event, also suggested we do a White Elephant gift exchange. If you're interested in participating, pick something $5 or under, wrap it, and bring it. More to come on that as we get closer to the event.

Even though we're the vegetarian group, we prefer that you bring something vegan so everyone can share (if you are not bringing something that is vegan, please identify the dish clearly as non-vegan). I've stolen the following paragraphs from Ann Swissdorf's potlucks, as it's a better description than I could write up:

For the potluck, bring a plant-based dish (no meat, fish fowl, gelatin, dairy, eggs, honey or other animal derived products) to serve at least 8 people. A plant-based dish can be as simple as, cut up fruits or veggies or a bottle of natural apple juice to share. Ira provides these directions: Take I-70 east. Exit at Peoria St. Go north on Peoria St to 51st. Ave. and turn right. Turn left at the second 4 WAY stop sign at Uvalda St. Turn right at the first St, Elmendorf Pl. 2nd house on the right.

It's been a couple months since we've been out at a restaurant, so we're due. It's also been awhile since we've been in the south part of town.

Christine suggested Namaste, and I do believe we've been there before a long time ago. It's a Nepalese/Indian restaurant located in southwest Denver, near Hampden and Wadsworth, with loads of vegetarian options (see http://www.namasterestaurant.com/menu.htm#Vegetarian%20Corner for details).

Here are some glowing reviews for the place, taken from Yelp.com:

"Namaste offers very good Indian food in a casual, small, friendly atmosphere with excellent service from real Indian waiters whom know thier products."

"My husband is English and knows his curry and he is very fond of Namaste!"

"I have been to Namaste at least 4 times and three of the times with co-workers visiting from Gaurgon, India."

One other note...if you're interested in leading an upcoming vegetarian restaurant outing (calling in the reservation and showing up :), let me know - I'm happy to post more of these. So if this isn't in your part of town, and you'd like one scheduled soon, and are willing to phone in the reservation and be there, let me know...
